St. Anthony, Idaho, known as the Doorway to the Dunes, is a city in Fremont County. It has a population of a little over 4,000 and is most well known for its 10,600-acre area of white quartz sand dunes. 

The St. Anthony Sand Dunes are a popular destination for sand dune motor sports, bonfires, camping, and wildlife viewing. It also has a Wilderness Study Area and is home to about 2,500 elk, 1,500 mule deer, and 500 moose. The dunes can reach staggering heights, with the tallest reaching 400 feet high. This area is closed in the winter for wildlife migration but opens in the summer for a variety of activities. You can even cool off from the dunes at Egin Lake, a small lake nearby that offers swimming. 

If you want to go back in time, walk the Petroplyph trail at Celebration Park, which winds through glacial boulders. These boulders are covered in a dark sheen with a lighter rock hidden below the surface. A native tribe used these rocks to carve pictures, known as petroglyphs. Celebration Park’s petroglyphs are between 10,000 and 12,000 years old. Historians don’t know which natives carved the drawings, making the pictures even more interesting.
