Who We Are
Big Foot Heating & Cooling Services
In 2007, Charles Fife stopped working for someone else and began CRF Mechanical to provide better, more reliable HVAC services to homeowners across St. Anthony and beyond. With this new company, he specialized in HVAC repair, maintenance, and installation. Charles couldn’t have anticipated how successful CRF Mechanical would become, and he needed a larger team to help the company grow. In 2015, Charles hired his first employee, and by the year’s end, he renamed it Big Foot Heating & Cooling. While the name has changed, he and his team still provide the most reliable HVAC services to homes and businesses across Eastern Idaho.

-
What is the average lifespan of my home’s HVAC systems?
The average lifespan of your home’s heating or cooling system will vary depending on various factors, including installation, frequency of use, and maintenance. Systems installed properly and maintained by a reliable HVAC team have a lifespan of 10 to 20 years. If you use the system more frequently or fail to provide adequate maintenance, you may find that your system struggles to make it to this age and may need to be replaced prematurely. It may also be in your best interest to replace the system if you frequently schedule repairs or the cost of your monthly energy bills is consistently rising.
-
Do bigger HVAC systems perform better than smaller systems?
If your home’s air conditioning unit or furnace isn’t meeting your heating and cooling needs, you may consider replacing them with larger units. However, bigger systems don’t automatically equal better performance. Units that are too big for your home may short cycle, using more energy to turn on and off while causing wear and tear on the system. If your system isn’t performing as well as it used to, you should contact a trusted HVAC specialist for advice and support. They can provide tips and system upgrades to keep your home energy-efficient and comfortable.
-
How can I reduce my monthly energy costs?
High energy costs can cause a significant strain on your wallet, especially during the summer and winter months. To avoid consistently rising costs, it is best to speak to a trusted HVAC team about their upgrade and replacement services. They can help you transition to a higher efficiency system and install additional HVAC products, like smart thermostats, gas fireplaces, and stoves, that can warm and cool your home more efficiently, helping you reduce overall energy costs. Although this may seem like a steep investment up front, the savings over time are well worth it.
-
How frequently should I service my furnace and air conditioner?
One incredibly important part of caring for your home’s furnace and air conditioner is scheduling regular maintenance. On average, these appointments should be scheduled in the spring and fall to ensure your systems are prepared for the upcoming weather changes. Not only will this ensure you’re not experiencing system breakdowns, but it can also prolong the life of your equipment, saving you from premature and costly replacements. Neglecting these essential maintenance appointments may lead to performance deficits and rising energy costs.
-
How can I reduce allergens and improve my home’s air quality?
If you’ve found that allergens in your home are causing respiratory irritation, it may be time to consider investing in a professional air purifier. These purifying systems can remove the most irritating dirt, dust, smog, and other air pollutants, creating a fresher and cleaner environment for you and your loved ones. A whole-home humidifier can also boost moisture levels in your home and reduce the discomfort caused by dry indoor air without the risk of mold growth and the introduction of additional allergens or respiratory irritants.
-
Is a gas fireplace a reliable way to warm my home?
Gas fireplaces are a reliable and efficient way to warm your home. They provide consistent heat with the simple push of a button, making them an excellent alternative or supplement to traditional heating systems. Gas fireplaces offer instant warmth without the need for wood or the hassle of cleaning ash. Many models come with adjustable thermostats and remote controls, allowing you to manage the temperature easily. Additionally, they continue to work during power outages, providing heat when you need it most. Properly maintained gas fireplaces offer dependable, long-lasting performance for cozy and comfortable living spaces.
