HVAC System Replacement in North Rigby, Idaho
October 1, 2026
Big Foot Heating & Cooling recently completed an HVAC system replacement in North Rigby, Idaho, replacing an aging gas furnace and upgrading several components of the home’s existing heating and cooling system.
The original system included a 100,000 BTU gas furnace rated at 90% efficiency, along with a coil box located beneath the furnace. During the evaluation, technicians reviewed the available space in the utility closet and determined that the equipment layout could be adjusted to accommodate the new furnace and evaporator coil.
The project included more than the furnace replacement alone. Big Foot Heating & Cooling also addressed the home’s return-air layout, filtration, condensate drainage, ductwork connections, and electrical connections for the new outdoor air conditioning equipment.
HVAC System Replacement with a Bryant Furnace and Central Air Conditioning
The main part of this HVAC system replacement was the installation of a Bryant Preferred 96.5% AFUE two-stage gas furnace. The new 100,000 BTU furnace features variable-speed air delivery and replaced the home’s older 90% efficiency furnace.
A Bryant evaporator coil and outdoor central air conditioning unit were also installed as part of the project, giving the home an updated heating and cooling setup.
The new outdoor condenser was positioned beside the garage, with the refrigerant lines routed through the garage to connect with the indoor equipment. The installation was configured around the home’s existing layout rather than requiring major structural changes to the utility area.
Return-Air and Ductwork Improvements
As part of the HVAC system replacement, technicians also evaluated how air moved through the home. The house had seven supply registers on the lower level and five upstairs, but the bedrooms did not have dedicated return-air access.
When bedroom doors remain closed, limited return-air pathways can affect how air circulates within a room. To address this portion of the system, five pass-through return-air grilles were installed for the bedrooms.
The project also included adjustments around the new furnace and updated equipment connections. The existing filter setup, which used a one-inch filter that had previously been taped into place, was replaced with a dedicated filter rack.
Having an accessible filter rack provides a more practical setup for routine filter replacement and ongoing HVAC maintenance.
Condensate Drainage and Equipment Connections
The HVAC system replacement also included an update to the condensate drainage. The home’s previous corrugated condensate piping was replaced with three-quarter-inch PVC piping.
Condensate drainage is an important part of a high-efficiency furnace and central air conditioning system because both heating and cooling equipment can produce moisture that needs to be properly directed away from the equipment.
Technicians also completed the necessary equipment connections and ductwork transitions for the new furnace and cooling system. The goal was to integrate the replacement equipment with the home’s existing infrastructure while updating the components that were part of the project scope.
Electrical Work for the New AC Equipment
The new central air conditioning system required electrical work to connect the outdoor equipment. Technicians completed the necessary electrical connections as part of the overall HVAC system replacement.
The home’s existing electrical panel was located in a position that allowed the outdoor equipment connections to be incorporated into the installation without requiring major changes to the home’s overall layout.
Coordinating the electrical work with the furnace, air conditioning equipment, ductwork, filtration, and drainage helped bring the different portions of the HVAC upgrade together as one complete project.
A Complete HVAC Upgrade in North Rigby
This North Rigby project demonstrates that an HVAC system replacement can involve much more than exchanging an old furnace for a new one.
Along with the Bryant Preferred gas furnace, the project included central air conditioning equipment, a new filter rack, five bedroom pass-through return-air grilles, updated condensate drainage, ductwork adjustments, and the electrical connections required for the outdoor equipment.
The result is an updated heating and cooling system with several supporting components designed around the home’s existing layout.
For homeowners considering a furnace replacement or a larger HVAC upgrade, evaluating the surrounding components can be just as important as selecting the new equipment. Filtration, return-air pathways, drainage, ductwork connections, and electrical requirements all need to be considered during an HVAC system replacement.
