Shelley, Idaho, is a small town in Bingham County. It was established in 1904 and named after John F. Shelley, who moved to the area in 1892. He built the first store, barn, and residence in the area. Shelley is located on the eastern side of the Snake River and faces the Blackfoot Mountains.

In 1927, Shelley hosted its first Spud Day, and it continues to hold this celebration on the third Saturday of September, at the beginning of the potato harvest and students’ two-week break from school. This event features a pageant, parade, 5k and one-mile walk, french fry eating contest, car show, potato sack race, spud picking contest, and more. Around 10,000 to 15,000 people come to enjoy Spud Day each year. 

The Shelley Greenbelt is a fully paved trail that follows the Snake River for two miles and ends at North Bingham County Park. This collaboration between Shelley and Bingham County includes picnic tables, benches, and activities for families.
