Teton, Idaho, is a small town in Fremont County. In the 1800s, a group of pioneers left Utah in search of new homes for their families. In 1883, they stopped and settled in an area near the Teton River and named it Teton after the great view of the Teton Mountain range. James and Hannah Gubbins Gardner and their four children, survivors of the Willie Handcart Company, were one of the first families to settle in Teton. Back then, it was home to around 98 people, and it has grown to around 800 today. 

There are many opportunities for fly-fishing in the Teton Valley. From the South Fork of the Snake River to the Teton River and Henry’s Fork, you’ll find plenty of rainbow, cutthroat, and Brook trout to catch.

Visitors can also float the Teton River, as there are many points to get in and get out. You can rent inflatable kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, and even tubes to enjoy a relaxing journey down the river. You can even stop along the way to swim. 

Teton is located only 35 miles from Mesa Falls, the last two waterfalls on the Snake River, unaffected by manmade influences. You can stop by the Lower and Upper Mesa falls scenic areas, which both have paved trails and boardwalks, as well as picnic tables for those who bring along a lunch.
